DSCC hits Jennifer Brunner at Ohio GOP's urging

Does the DSCC know that Lee Fisher is bending over backwards to help the Ohio Republican Party?   Because DSCC fingerprints are on a domain name that is being used to run a phony petition against Jennifer Brunner.

Lee Fisher is the DSCC's chosen candidate for US Senate in Ohio, even to the point of threatening Jennifer Brunner in December.  Brunner is Fisher's Democratic primary opponent May 4, Ohio's sitting secretary of state, and a hero of progressives nationally.

Last week, Brunner issued a directive enforcing longstanding law that requires a voter who wishes to switch parties and receive the other party's primary ballot to sign a statement declaring they adhere to their new party's principles.  It's a measure designed to prevent shenanigans like Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos, wherein Republicans jumped to the Democratic primary in 2008 to skew the results in their favor.

Brunner has come under heavy attack from Ohio Republicans for this directive, with Ohio Republican Party chairman Kevin Dewine daring Lee Fisher, Brunner's primary opponent, to denounce Brunner's directive.

"Lee Fisher should immediately tell Ohioans whether he supports Jennifer Brunner's use of her position as Secretary of State in order to influence this critical election.  It's unacceptable that Brunner is jeopardizing voting rights, and Fisher should immediately step forward and denounce this maneuver," said John McClelland, spokesman for the Ohio Republican Party.

Lee Fisher today obliged, did the bidding of the Ohio Republican Party, and sent out an email doing precisely what the Ohio Republican Party asked Lee Fisher to do. So thrilled that Lee Fisher did what Ohio Republicans want him to do, the Ohio GOP tweeted a pat on the back to Lee Fisher within hours.

It gets worse.

In Fisher's email, there's a link to a "petition" you can sign to tell Jennifer Brunner to do what Republicans want her to do as well!

Here's the text of the link:

So the DSCC is running an online attack against Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, which the Ohio Republican Party begged them to initiate, and is now applauding.

Who is the REAL Democrat in this race?

Fisher already sent out a mailer attacking Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and every Democrat in Washington.  Now he's doing the bidding of the Ohio Republican Party, with the help of the DSCC.  How can we trust Lee Fisher to support Democrats going forward, if he'll resort to parroting GOP attack lines when the going gets tough?  Will he throw Ohio governor Ted Strickland under the bus when the going gets rough in the fall?

I think we know how to deal with this kind of stuff.

We support Jennifer Brunner.

We donate to Jennifer Brunner.

And we make damn sure that Jennifer Brunner is our nominee for US Senate after the May 4 primary in Ohio.

Update: Tim X-posts at our Ohio blog home Plunderbund.  Come say hi.  ;-)
